PINK LADY

pink_ladyPINK LADY is a theatrical time machine, a portal into the golden age of jazz and booze and Paris circa 1928. We integrate the present-day audience into this vintage escapade by dazzling them with a stage show they would have seen at The Follies Bergeres, at the same time surrounding them with the characters' behind the scenes interactions, including the gossip, drama, and mehem that makes up the life of a performer. Its like an antique reality show, all roller coaster, all the time. The Pink Lady Cafe set (a small stage, red curtain, full service bar, cafe tables etc.) is arranged amidst the audience cafe tables making it easy for observers to slip into the colorful, sensual, dynamic world of these characters. As we follow the performers through their joys, failures and triumphs, the plot reveals an impetus for each of the staged dances. Though we begin as voyeurs, sneaking a peek at the ladies changing in silhouette behind a screen as they get ready for the show, we then follow a crazy Can Can to a strip tease down to pasties and gloves, to the teasing and torturing of an innocent suitor. The music and fashion of PINK LADY are modern re-imaginings of the sounds and looks of Jazz Age Europe i.e. Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker and 1930's jazz meets night club re-mixes. Parisian Couture (specifically costume deisgner Erte) as seen through the lens of John Galliano on a trip to Vegas, helps set the tone. While the plot structure is constantly surprising, the numbers are nostalgic, traditional, dazzling, sensual and adult.
